The Word This Week
Resurrection Day…
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have [d]fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.
On that Sunday morning, the ladies seemingly had no idea what they were about to find as they went to the tomb where Jesus’ dead bo had been placed. Their only thought was if they could somehow move the massive stone away from the doorway of the tomb, they would further anoint Jesus’ dead body as was their custom. They wanted to demonstrate their great love and respect for Jesus, even though His death had left them confused and seemingly alone in the world.
We can only imagine their surprise in finding the stone rolled away, the soldiers fled, and two angels asking why they sought the living among the dead?!
This would all be inexplicable to them. How could this be? How could Jesus - whom they KNEW to be dead - possibly be alive?
This is the question each of us must answer for ourselves every time we are likewise confronted by the empty tomb Jesus had been placed in upon His death.
It cannot be explained away. There is only one answer: Jesus, though dead, was raised to life on the third day following His death – just as He had said He would be.
It was difficult for any of Jesus’ followers to literally believe what He had told them. (Even though He Himself had raised the son of the widow at Nain from the dead and then followed that amazing miracle by raising Jairus’ daughter, and then His friend Lazarus from the dead.)
Resurrection was plainly NOT on their minds as they approached the tomb.
Maybe it wasn’t on yours either. It is so far out of the realm of what is possible in human experience most people still try to explain it away. But it cannot be.
HE IS RISEN! And we who believe shall be as well!
