The Word This Week
Revelation 19:11...
What John sees next is the conquering King of Kings the Jewish people have always longed for. The Messiah they always expected is now come.
When Jesus came to earth the first time, He was a great disappointment to the Jews. They were so disappointed in His presumed frailty they denied Him, tortured Him, and killed Him. They desired the conquering king they read about in their scriptures – and it was obvious to them Jesus was no conquering king – and ultimately, they killed Him for claiming to be. In their eyes, this was blasphemy, and blasphemy against God is punishable by death.
Then they denied His resurrection. And His ascension. And they will continue to deny those facts until this moment – and then they will mourn greatly for piercing The One Who came to save them from their sin. Their Passover Lamb, come to take away the sins of the world – not just the Jews.
John now sees heaven opened, and he beholds a white horse upon which is seated One who defies description in purely human terms. It doesn’t stop John from making the attempt. After all, he has been commanded to write down the things which he had seen, the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.
From Chapter 6 through Chapter 18 the earth has been ravaged by the wrath of God. God’s wrath has been poured out with such vehemence Jesus said none would have survived unless those days had been shortened.
Prior to Chapter 6, The Church has been raptured, spending those seven cataclysmic years in a honeymoon period with Jesus. The Bride has indeed been enraptured by her Groom, the Lord Jesus Christ, exactly as Jesus had promised in John 14:1-3.
In the end, had those remaining on earth repented under God’s righteous wrath? Absolutely not. In fact, all the armies of the earth join together to fight against Christ at His return. This is the height of foolishness. You cannot win in a fight against Almighty God.
That Jesus is indeed Almighty God may come a surprise to those remaining on earth who oppose God and always have – but it will come as no surprise to us. We will also be riding upon white horses, following Jesus, and watching as Jesus wins the victory over those who oppose the Word of God by the sword of the Word of God which proceeds from His mouth.
