Revelation 12:1...
While it may be beyond our comprehension what it means that the temple of God in heaven has been opened, it is very interesting timing.
The temple men have created on earth has been closed.
The Antichrist has defiled man’s temple by going into the holy place and declaring himself to be God. This is an abomination to God, and God will now move in ways which are beyond man’s ability to explain in any other way than being God’s just judgment upon evil man.
It is all part of a pattern established thousands of years earlier.
We remember Moses was instructed by God to build a tabernacle to God - a place of worship where the Israelites would meet with God. This tabernacle was exactly prescribed to Moses in every way. Its materials, its furnishings, its dimensions, its movement, its location, and its holiness. (Later, God gave the same kind of instruction to David in anticipation of the construction of the temple at Jerusalem.)
The true temple is in heaven. The tabernacle on earth – and later the temple on earth – were but replicas of God’s temple in heaven. And now God’s temple is opened, once man’s temple has been closed in its desecration by the Antichrist.
With the opening of God’s temple, and by the lightnings, noises, thunderings, hail and earthquake upon the earth, a great picture book is opened by God as the revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ continues. It is important for all those on earth who may be reading this at that time, and for all of us presently, to know and understand the spiritual history of the world, as provided to John from heaven’s perspective.
While mankind has been on earth, his visibility into heavenly events has been limited. The spiritual realm has been mostly invisible to man. Now it is revealed in a form which everyone can both see and understand. (This is especially true for those who have prior knowledge of God’s Word, as well as those who are willing to look into what God’s Word has always been declaring through the Law and The Prophets.)
It will be the Bible itself which provides the true meaning of the simple pictures designed to bring all who are interested in knowing to a place of understanding of all that has been going on behind the scenes from eternity past. All those alive in God’s Spirit will be quickened by the revelation present in this chapter.
